Growing up fast.

Yesterday, Day 7 - Lu 2:21-38, Mt 2:1-12

Today, Day 8 - Mt 2:13-23, Lu 2:39 -52

If you haven't noticed yet, this Bible reading plan is set up with a chronological view of Jesus' life. At least in the four gospels, the reading plan we're following is loosely arranged starting with Jesus' birth and will end with the brand new church once Jesus left. Interestingly enough, and right on par with scripture, we find the jump between Jesus' birth and his adult life pretty quick.

In this group of readings we met a temple prophet or two with what had to have been a crazy experience for two new parents. Quite possibly awe inspiring and leaving them thinking, What!?!?! The Wisemen finally show up to Jesus' home and we think he's a few years old at this point. Mary and Joseph do some moving and Jesus gets lost as a twelve year old on a family trip. So aside from the temple madness a normal family right? And then fast-forward! John the Baptist is all grown up, Jesus' cousin and elder just by months.

We cover alot of ground in these readings but definitely some ponderable moments to chew on for sure. Like...

  • A comment Simeon makes about who Jesus is to become, "...a sign that will be spoken against, so that the thoughts of many hearts will be revealed." What do you think he meant by hearts being revealed?

  • In todays reading we find, "But his mother treasured all these things in her heart." (Lk. 2:51) Mary is making this a habit, remember where else she's did this recently?

  • We are told Jesus grew in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and man. Intriguing is it not that he grew up finding acceptance and favor with men and yet his life wouldnt always be that way.

See you later!

Luke
